Our Assessment: John Browning filed a patent for a “hammerless” shotgun with a unique take-down barrel and locking breech block on, it was approved on and along with a separate patent, that applied to the connection between the slide arm and the fore end, became what would be the Stevens Model 520 shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.īox, Paperwork & Accessories: The installed green canvas sling is included. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this shotgun is in about Very Good-plus condition as refinished. The screw heads range from sharp to disfigured with useable slots, one of the bayonet lug mounting screws has had an additional slot cut. There are scattered patches of light surface erosion under the finish, most notable on the right receiver flat. There are a few scattered minor marks through the finish and light operational wear on the bolt, action bar and magazine tube. Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. There is some light erosion in the bore with more moderate erosion in the chamber. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good-Fine condition.īore Condition: The bore is semi-bright. The plate has scattered light wear, most at the heel and toe. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks have a few scattered light nicks, dings and scuffs. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece wood with grooved slide handle, pistol grip, straight comb, serrated black hard rubber buttplate and a sling plate inlet to a scoop in the belly (the other swivel is mounted to the bayonet lug). Sights / Optics: There is a brass bead at the front of the bayonet mount/handguard assembly. The bottom-rear of the grip and the front of the belly are marked “U.S.”, flaming bomb and “P”. The front face of the trigger assembly at the rear of the loading port is marked with the serial number, behind this is “U / S / 3”. The left of the receiver is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” at the top, the top-front is marked “P” to the left of the sighting plane, the right-front is marked “U.S.” over a flaming bomb. Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “PROOF TESTED 12 GAUGE / -2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER-“, the top is marked “U.S.” with a flaming bomb Ordnance mark, the left of the chamber boss has “*”, the left of the barrel extension under the action bar is marked “S” and “K” in circles as well as “H” and “U”.
